About this hunting block
Animals present are red deer and chamois, in low to moderate numbers.
This block takes in the Blue River catchment including its north and south branches. The valley floor offers reasonable travel through mature silver beech/tahina forest and some small gorges, with a marked track and then a marked route. Higher up the valley walls are steep and bluffy.
This block is balloted for the ROAR period during the months of March and April.
Access is from the Blue Pools car park on the Haast Highway (SH6), 9 km northwest of Makarora township. The turnoff to the Blue Valley is marked by a sign immediately after crossing the swingbridge.
