Managing threats
Managing threats
Introduction
We manage threats to places and species, including fire, biosecurity and climate change.
Tiakina Ngā Manu
Tiakina Ngā Manu, formerly Battle for our Birds, is DOC's successful predator control programme.
Conservation Services Programme
The Conservation Services Programme (CSP) monitors the impact of commercial fishing on protected species, studies species populations and looks at ways to limit bycatch.
Biosecurity
Biosecurity helps to prevent damage caused by unwanted organisms. These include animal pests, weeds, didymo, and diseases like kauri dieback.
Climate change and biodiversity
DOC is the lead agency for protecting New Zealand’s native species and ecosystems from threats such as climate change.
Conservation Dogs Programme
This programme uses highly trained dogs and their handlers to detect New Zealand’s protected species or unwanted pests.
Fires on public conservation land
Find out about restricted and prohibited fire seasons, and how fires on public conservation land is minimised.
Honeybees on conservation land
DOC is concerned about the risks to beekeeping sustainability in New Zealand. We are taking the lead by creating a sustainable model for beekeeping – one based on conservation.
Wildlife health
Wildlife health is about ensuring we have healthy and robust populations of wildlife. We work on investigating wildlife diseases.
