Goats, possums and pigs are present in this reserve.

General Information

Permits are available online as 'Taranaki Forests' under the Central North Island hunting block.

The Waitara River separates this 523 ha reserve from the nearby Matirangi and Makino conservation areas. The Rerekino is primarily steep hill country running from a main ridge down to the river, interspersed with inaccessible streams. The canopy is predominantly tawa and kamahi with scattered rimu, rata and rewarewa. There are no facilities and the area has low usage.

Kiwi and North island robin are known to be present and the area is one of the few localities of the herbaceous daisy Brachyglotis turneri.
