Introduction
The steep terrain of Kokaka and Taheke Conservation Areas along with Rotokahu and Retaruke Scenic Reserves are home to kiwi and blue ducks. Red deer, fallow deer, pigs and goats are all hunted here.Species

Red deer, fallow deer, pigs and goats are all present in these reserves.
Special restrictions: Carvers Block requires a special permit. These are only issued for one week at a time, Friday to Thursday.
General information
Permits are available online as 'Taumarunui Reserves' under the Central North Island hunting block.
The terrain in these areas is generally steep with numerous bluffs and gorges. Kiwi and blue ducks are present.
Access
Access is only available via unformed legal road or by helicopter. Access agreement from the landowner must be obtained through the private land from the formed road ends.

Dogs
A separate permit is required to hunt with dogs. All dogs must be avian avoidance certified. Contact the local DOC office for details.
