The Pou Tairangahau is a new position created as part of DOC’s new model of operating, with a primary purpose of leading engagement with iwi, whanau and hapu to grow conservation.

“The ability of the DOC to build and support relationships with tangata whenua to achieve conservation outcomes for the natural and historic heritage of New Zealand is essential. Since leaving the army Aaron moved to be with his wife's whanau near Motatau where he is involved in running an outdoor tourism business.

“We have so many fantastic resources in the north from our beautiful beaches to our magnificent Kauri forests and our rich culture. These taonga provide iwi and DOC with joint business opportunities which could assist in the sustainability of our environment and the socio economic standing of iwi in the north. Nau te rourou, naku te rourou ka ora te iwi - with your input and ours, together we shall prosper."
