Riariaki Conservation Area and Pairawahipi Scenic Reserve are closed for hunting until further notice.
Red deer, pigs and goats are all present in these reserves.
General information
Permits are not available online. Contact the local DOC office for a permit.
Mixed podocarp forest. The area is steep and dissected with bluffs and gorges.
Access
Turn off State Highway 4 north of Raetihi onto Ruatiti Road. Then turn right onto Makino Road or left onto Ruatiti Road just before Ruatiti Domain. Access is through private land. The only access to Pairawahipi Scenic Reserve is through Riariaki Conservation Area.
Landowners
You must have the private landowners permission to cross their land to access these reserves.

Dogs
A separate permit is required to hunt with dogs. All dogs must be avian avoidance certified. Contact the local DOC office for details.
