Kiwi Mouth Hut in Kaweka Forest Park is a comfortable base for many hunting opportunities. At 620 metres altitude, the hut is close to Kiwi Creek and very close to the Ngaruroro River.

About this hunting block

Kiwi Mouth Hut is an ideal tramping, fishing and hunting stopover point for access into the southern area of Manson Country and the more remote western areas of the Kaweka Forest Park.

Location

Kiwi Mouth Hut is located on the western Kaweka Forest Park boundary on the banks of the Ngaruroro River. This is at the foot of the area known as Manson Country.

Access

The Kiwi Mouth area offers hunters bush and creek hunting with adjoining open clay pan and scree areas. The Kiwi streambed offers a good hunting opportunity, but much of the terrain is steep. The hut location also provides access for day hunts over to the southern Manson area where numerous creek gullies and the tops are found.

Making the best use of main tracks when planning a hunting adventure will help ensure a safe and easy return.

Dogs

Only registered, avian aversion certified hunting dogs, guide dogs, companion dogs (certified by the Top Dog Companion Trust) and dogs used for special services (including conservation management activities) are permitted in the park. All other dogs are banned.
