About this hunting block
General information
Craigieburn Forest Park is located alongside Arthur's Pass National Park. The terrain is moderate to very steep, with beech forest, scrub, tussock and alpine shrubland. Pigs, red deer and chamois are present in low to moderate numbers.
The eastern faces of the Craigieburn range are excluded from hunting.
Note: This is an alpine area near the main divide. Rivers can rise very quickly so take care with river crossings. Other hunters and trampers may be encountered. Take precautions and identify your target.
Access
The easiest public access is via the popular Cass - Lagoon tramping track, which has two entry points just off SH 73.
The first access is up the Cass riverbed from the car park at the east end of the Cass road bridge.
Note: hunting is not permitted until you have entered the forest park - approximately 4 km from the car park.
The Lagoon Saddle end of the track starts beside Arthur's Pass Wilderness Lodge. About 14km east of Arthur's Pass village, turn onto Cora Lynn Road and follow the signs to the designated car park.
Landholders
If you propose to access the forest park through adjoining private land then you must first get permission from the relevant station;
