Barge your own vehicle or take a water taxi from Te Aumiti/French Pass to Kapowai, and then continue on foot, mountain bike, quad bike or vehicle along the 27 km road to Moawhitu in Greville Harbour/Wharariki. Or boat or fly by private aircraft to Moawhitu.
If driving, it's essential you have a 4WD vehicle and experience – the last 2 km of the road is steep, narrow and winding. The surface can be slippery after rain and there are steep drop offs.
The camp is a 1.5 km walk from the beach and a 1 km walk from the airstrip. There is no vehicle access to the airstrip, but you can drive to the camp.
Moawhitu is exposed to high winds and rough seas so extreme care needs to be taken when leaving boats and aircraft overnight. No public moorings are available.
There is a landing fee of $10.00 at the airstrip.
