A natural and unmarked network of underground passages in Tongariro Forest.
Turn off SH47 onto John McDonald Road (a gravel road that can be rough). Veer left at the Pukehinau Road intersection, and continue to caves.
Only enter the caves with people who know them well as it is easy to get lost.
Heavy rainfall may result in rising water levels in the caves, which may cause them to flood.
Your safety is your responsibility. Stay safe in the outdoors by following the Land Safety Code.
Tell someone your plans, including when to raise the alarm if you haven't returned, by using the Outdoors Intentions form.
