General information

The Brunner Range is about 20 km long and extends from the Buller Gorge south to the Awarau River (Larry River). There are several small valley systems that provide access into the ranges but there is no formed track access.

The Brunner Range is heavily forested with open tops to about 1400 m. Vegetation is mostly beech forest at lower altitude and areas of tussock along the range. The largest river, the Deepdale has few clearings and flats along its 27 km length.

Entry on to the range is generally difficult.

Access

Walk up the Larry River (no tracks) and climb to Bourkes Rock which is the southern end of the open tops. Travel along the tops is easy.

Landing Creek: This stream provides access to a leading spur that climbs onto the range. You need permission to cross private land lower down.

Rough Creek: This stream provides access to a leading spur that climbs onto the range. You need permission to cross private land lower down.

Dee Creek: This stream provides access to a leading spur that climbs onto the range. You need permission to cross private land lower down.
