About this hunting block
Opua Forest is a mixture of regenerating coastal forest and scrub intersected by steep gullies. Boundaries with neighbouring properties are not clearly defined.
Northland brown kiwi are present in this area.
Phone reception is patchy in the Bay of Islands hunting blocks.

Access
Off State Highway 10 turn into Oramahoe Road, the forest edge is around 10 km down this road.
Off State Highway 1 turn off north of Kawakawa onto Whangae Road and follow for around 6 km. Turn right onto Oramahoe Road. The forest edge is around 2 km down this road.
From Kawakawa, follow Paihia Rd to Opua. At the Opua intersection turn into Oramahoe Road. The forest edge is around 3 km down this road.
Dogs
In this area, dogs can only enter land managed by DOC if you have a permit for them. Permit restrictions:
- The number of dogs is limited to three per person.
- It is a requirement that all dogs have a current certification for kiwi/bird aversion training.
- Dogs must be kept under control at all times.
- Dogs are not permitted in DOC campgrounds.
