This hunting area was previously covered by restricted hunting permits. In November 2025 the hunting area was moved into the open area hunting permit. All permits issued from November 2025 will include details for this hunting area.
Active open hunting permits issued before November 2025 that include the Upper South Island region will not show details for this hunting area, but hunting is authorised for the hunting area under these permits. See the special conditions below that apply to hunting in this hunting area.

This area is part of the Upper South Island open hunting permit area.

Special conditions
-
- This permit does not authorise hunting for parts of March and April during the balloted roar period. For more information see Molesworth roar ballot system.
- No hunting is permitted on the Bullen block from 16 April to 30 September, or on the Elliott block from 16 April to 31 October.
- Canada Goose and Chukar hunt periods: This permit does not authorise hunting for specified periods in March, June and October. See the Canada Goose and Chukar hunt dates for more information.
- In addition to the species listed in Standard Condition 1, this permit authorises the hunting of rabbit and hares.
- Despite Standard Condition 9, this permit authorises access by foot to the permit area through other hunting blocks in Molesoworth Recreation Reserve. Hunting on blocks outside of the permit area is prohibited.
- Hunters must adhere to the Molesworth Care Code while in Molesworth Recreation Reserve.
- Vehicle use in the Reserve is limited to the public roads and Acheron Road. Acheron Road is only open between 7 am and 7 pm from 1 October until Easter Monday or the second Sunday in April, whichever is later. These roads may be closed at any time. Vehicles may be left up to 50 m from the Acheron Rd and must not block gates or access ways.
- Fires are prohibited in the Reserve (except for facilities provided in huts).
- Camping is not permitted in the Acheron Road corridor. You must camp at least 300 m from and out of sight of the Acheron or Clarence/Tophouse Roads. Camping is allowed for the duration of this permit only.
