About this hunting block

Location

Omarukokere Bivouac is located opposite the confluence of the Ngaruroro River and the Omarukokere Stream.

Access

Strongly recommended for hunting are the lower altitude stream gullies each side of the Ngaruroro valley. The Ngaruroro riverbanks, immediately above and below the bivouac, can be difficult to negotiate with steep climbs required to clear the river gorges. From the nearby bivouac helipad, a hunter’s track follows a long ridge up to the Spion Kop area – there are many hunting opportunities available to the north and south.

Hunters visiting this area will generally be limited to bush hunting in the vicinity of the bivouac or at Spion Kop about 1 hr away. Reaching the tops will require reasonable effort. Omarukokere Tops contain some difficult bluffs with steep gully approaches.

Dogs

Only registered, avian aversion certified hunting dogs, guide dogs, companion dogs (certified by the Top Dog Companion Trust) and dogs used for special services (including conservation management activities) are permitted in the park. All other dogs are banned.
