The DOC Customer Service Centre will close for the holiday period from 3 pm Tuesday 24 December and will reopen 8 am Monday 6 January. Our conservation emergency hotline 0800 DOC HOT (0800 362 468) remains available 24/7 and our visitor centres are open (except on 25 December).
Who to call
- Call 111 for all fire, search and rescue and threats to life emergencies.

Report sick, injured or dead wildlife
- For 1 or 2 sick, injured or dead animals, or whale and dolphin strandings: call 0800 DOC HOT (0800 362 468).
- For a group of sick, injured or dead animals: call the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) pest and disease hotline 0800 80 99 66.
- For non-native wildlife: contact your local SPCA or a wildlife rehabilitator in your area.
Report illegal or suspicious activity

- vandalism of huts and tracks
- removal of plants from reserves
- killing or catching native wildlife
- fishing in marine reserves
- disturbing marine mammals

Report accidents or safety issues
To report non-urgent accidents, near misses or safety issues:

- contact the local DOC office or visitor centre – contact details are at the bottom of each track, hut, and campsite web page
- use our online safety or accident report form.
If there is an emergency that threatens someone’s life, dial 111 first.
