Syme Hut

Located in Dawson Falls area and Egmont National Park in the Taranaki region

Perched on the top of Fanthams Peak high on the slopes of Mt Taranaki, Syme Hut is arguably Egmont National Park's best overnight spots. On fine days you can enjoy spectacular views of the Taranaki region followed by stunning sunsets.

Note, there is no heating.

Fees

  • Adult (18+ years): $10 per night
  • Youth (5–17 years): $5 per night
  • Child/Infant (0–4 years): free

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12 month period.

Dawson Falls Visitor Centre to Syme Hut is around 5 to 6 hours long for a return trip. This follows the Fanthams Peak Track.
