Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12 month period.
Access to the Kirtle Burn Hut is from the SnowFarm Access Road, 1500m above sea level along 13km on gravel road. The Snow Farm Access road is 22km from Wanaka on the Cardrona Valley Road. Foot access on the Snow Farm Access Road is not permitted.
If you're not paying to use services at SnowFarm NZ, UnderDog Tours, SnowFarm Lodge Accommodation or SHPG, use of the Snow Farm access road to the hut incurs a fee per vehicle. The fee does not allow use of the SnowFarm Trails.
If you are staying overnight, park your vehicles against the SnowFarm Lodge and pay the road toll. If visiting for the day, park in the main carparking areas. All vehicles must display the receipt of payment in vehicle windscreens.
All vehicles are parked at their own risk. There is no 4-wheel-drive access to this hut.
Foot access to the Pisa Conservation Area is via an easement marked with orange markers from the carpark. Users must remain on the marked trail at all times and hold a responsibility to be considerate of others, including landowners and private property. Any person who is found on private land without consent may be served a trespass notice.
SHPG operates year-round, so be aware of moving machinery and vehicles in the Snow Farm Lodge carpark at all times. Access roads adjacent to the estate area are used for vehicle testing, extreme care is required. Photographs or recording devices are not permitted, this includes the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems/drones.
