Avalanche Creek Shelter Campsite

Located in Arthur's Pass National Park in the Canterbury region

This standard camping site is just off the main road in the Arthur’s Pass village, almost directly opposite the visitor centre.

Avalanche Creek Campsite is a small site in Arthur’s Pass Village. It is mostly carpark with a relatively small grassed area for tents.

It is between the road and the railway yards so it is noisier (including overnight) when compared to the more remote campsites in Arthur’s Pass National Park.

Kea can cause damage

Kea, the native alpine parrot, are present in this area. They are curious birds and can cause damage to tents and other gear. Guard your gear to avoid damage or loss.

The risk from kea is higher in Arthur's Pass Village than at any of our other sites, as it is frequented by gangs of juvenile birds.
