Introduction

Red deer are present in the Glen Allen hunting block, which takes in most of the Allen Creek catchment near Kingston at the southern tip of Lake Wakatipu.

Permit requirements

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by a 'restricted area permit'. Contact the DOC office managing the hunting area.

Seasonal restrictions

Before lighting a fire on public conservation land, check it's alright to light. Extinguish all fires before leaving huts and campsites. How to minimise the risk of fire.

About this hunting block

General information

A maximum of one party with up to three rifles in the block is allowed at one time.

This 1000 ha block takes in most of the Allen Creek catchment near Kingston at the southern tip of Lake Wakatipu. Vegetation is mainly beech/tawhai forest and tussockland.

The Glen Allen block is restricted. You need to get a permit specifically for this block, from the DOC Queenstown Office. The permit is issued for 4 days at a time only.

Access

Access is from the Glen Allen Walking Track which starts on Kent St beyond Kingston Station. 

Access is by foot only. Motorised vehicles are not permitted on the track.
