About this hunting block

Upland gamebirds provide the best hunting opportunity in the gamebird season. Rabbits and limited goats are also present. Special gamebirds permits are required for this area.

General information

This 487 area rises from the Manuherikia Valley up to the crest of Blackstone Hill. It is a mix of tussock grassland and shrubland with gullies and rocky outcrops.

Access

Access is from the carpark beside SH85. There is a marked walking track from the carpark. Dogs and firearms are permitted within 5m of this track but dogs must remain on a lead when walking over the public access track to the hunting area. A sign is present at the entrance to the Conservation Area.

Permits

The Blackstone Hill hunting block is open access but gamebird permits are required.

You'll also need a Fish & Game game bird permit and a firearms licence.

Know before you go

Dogs

Dogs are permitted within the area. Dogs must remain on a lead when walking over the public access track to the hunting area. If accessing the block over private land, you must have landholder permission to take your dog.
