About this campsite

The campsite is situated amongst coastal manuka forest within 5 minutes walk from Palliser Bay. Can get strong winds. 

Getting there

Address: 44 Ocean Beach Road, Rimutaka Forest Park 5373

45 minutes from Featherston, along Western Lake Road.

Drive south from Featherston along the Western Lake Rd, and then west on Wharekauhau Rd to the coast. Drive north west alongside Ocean Beach to Corner Creek. Unsealed road for at least 3 km with two stream fords. Suitable for large vehicles.  Accessible only from the eastern side of the Remutaka Range.

Permission to have a campfire at this site is determined by the Wairarapa Rural Fire District (WRFD) fire season status. See the WRFD website for the current status.

  • Campfires are allowed during open season.
  • A permit is required during a restricted season.
  • Campfires are banned during a prohibited season.
  • Extreme care must be taken with campfires.
