Mischievous juvenile keas are trying to outsmart DOC staff by being intent on breaking into predator control traps in the West Matukituki Valley despite heightened security aimed at keeping them out.
The boxes were secured to the ground after more than 75% of traps had been sprung last summer. However footage recorded in September 2011 shows determined keas working hard to crack the new security measures to steal the eggs inside, set up as predator bait.
