Wharekāpu/Paxton Point Conservation Area

Located in the Northland region

Wharekāpu/Paxton Point Conservation Area is home to sandy white beaches, popular Rarawa campsite and many recreation opportunities.

Take a day trip to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga).

Walk along the stunning Te Paki Coastal Track.

From Kaitaia follow SH1 north for approximately 50 km. Pass through Ngataki and then turn right into Rarawa Beach road. 

  • Day parking for Rarawa beach is located just outside the camp ground.
  • Mosquitoes are prolific – take insect repellent.

Water safety

If you plan to enjoy the water, learn how to stay safe when swimming, boating and fishing.

Surfing

The Rarawa beach is a popular surfing spot. The exposed beach break may be treacherous so take care in the water.
