This track takes you through an old mining area, through regenerating broadleaf/hardwood forest and reverting pasture land. There are some interesting landforms in the general area.
Accessed via the Maratoto roadend at Hikutaia or at the Golden Cross roadend at Waikino.
What to expect
This track is rough and unformed in places. There are unbridged river crossings so please exercise caution.
There is no access to Komata Reefs
There is no practical access to the nearby historic mining area of Komata Reefs. The pine forest at the end of Komata Reefs Road was felled and replanted in 2012 and is no longer suitable for tramping.
Stop kauri disease and protect kauri
- Scrub all soil off shoes and gear.
- Use cleaning stations.
- Always stay on the track.
