The track to this hut requires backcountry experience. There are minimal markers and navigation skills are needed.
The 4 wheel drive track to this hut begins at the Bush Stream Carpark, just past Mesopotamia Station.
The track leads to the Rangitata river flats. Access from here requires crossing the Rangitata River and then the Havelock River.
Multiple crossings of these rivers and their sidestreams is required as you progress.
Crossings are require a safe flow speed and are weather dependent. Be prepared to turn back if the river is flooded or if it is not safe to cross. If in doubt, stay out.
