General Information

Adjacent to the Whangamōmona Conservation Area, this 435 ha scenic reserve has similar rugged hills deeply dissected by streams.

Tawa forest is dominant on slopes with black beech on ridge tops with kamahi and rewarewa also present. Toetoe and raupō can be found in wetlands along valley bottoms.

Kiwi are present in this area.

A picnic area off SH43 on the Whangamōmona Saddle leads to a walking track through reserve.

Access

Access is via SH43 at the Whangamōmona Saddle - then Anchor Track.

Huts

There are no DOC huts in this reserve.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited except where authorisation has been granted by DOC. People wishing to take a dog into this area need to get a permit from the local DOC office and have a current kiwi aversion certificate.

Avian awareness and avoidance training

To take dogs across private property, or tracks crossing farmland, you must get permission from the landowner.
