Woodlaw Forest Conservation Area hunting

You can hunt red deer, goats and pigs in the Woodlaw Forest.

About this hunting block

Located in Western Southland, and to the north of the Longwood Range, the Woodlaw Forest covers 781 ha of rolling terrain with beech and podocarp forest. The open tops contain large areas of tussock grasslands and wetlands. 

Access

Access can be gained from the Ōtautau - Nightcaps Road, Nightcaps - Ohai Highway, Ohai - Clifden Highway onto logging roads of which gates may be locked and require permission from Rayonier New Zealand Ltd.

Pigs - low numbers

Dogs

  • Dogs must be registered and are not permitted in huts.
  • When crossing private land, dogs are to be on a leash until well into forest and kept under control.
  • DOC must be notified regarding missing or lost dogs on conservation land.

There are no DOC huts available.

If possuming, a permit must be obtained by visiting the DOC Murihiku Office in Invercargill.
