Pahia Hill Scenic Reserve hunting

You can hunt red deer in the Pahia Hill Scenic Reserve.

About this hunting block

Pahia Hill situated 10 km south of Orepuki is steep with a rounded top. The area covers approximately 165 ha and consists of remains of coastal hardwood, podocarp forest and broad leaved species with dense thickets of tree fern, crown fern and supplejack. Two private bush blocks boarder the conservation hunting area and care needs to be taken concerning these boundaries.

Access

Turn off SH99 to Pahia and follow Mullet Road. Access can be obtained from the ends of Skeggs Road or Mullet Road but permission must be obtained by the land owners to cross their land.

Animals present

Red deer - low numbers

Dogs

  • Dogs must be registered and are not permitted in huts.
  • When crossing private land, dogs are to be on a leash until well into forest and kept under control.
  • DOC must be notified regarding missing or lost dogs on conservation land.

If possuming, a permit must be obtained by visiting the DOC Murihiku Office in Invercargill.
