Oteake Conservation Park and Areas hunting

Located in the Otago region

The Oteake hunting area consists of over 70 000 hectares of mountainous high country, tussock plateaus, scree slopes, shrubland and wetland. Species present are pigs and red deer.

The area includes all of Oteake Conservation Park and some neighbouring areas, covering much of the St Bathans, Ewe, Hawkdun, Ida and St Marys ranges, and parts of the upper Manuherikia.

Oteake Conservation Park straddles the ranges dividing Otago and Canterbury, and is accessible from the Maniototo or the Waitaki Valley. The closest townships are Naseby, St Bathans and Omarama.

Climate

The climate is dry with continental-like extreme of temperature between summer and winter, but alpine conditions can occur at any time of year.
