Introduction

This 2000 ha block sits on lake Whakatipu facing slopes of Mt Dick near Kingston at the southern tip of Lake Wakatipu.

Permit requirements

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by a 'restricted area permit'. Contact the DOC office managing the hunting area.

About this hunting block

Vegetation is mainly beech/tawhai forest and tussockland. Terrain is steep and challenging.

Permit

The Mt Dick block is restricted. You need to get a permit specifically for this block, from the DOC Queenstown Visitor Centre. The permit is issued for 4 days at a time only.

Maximum of one party with up to three rifles in the block is allowed at one time.

Access

Access is from the Te Kere Haka Walking Track which starts on Kent St beyond Kingston Station. 

Access is by foot only. Motorised vehicles are not permitted on the track.
