The Lauder and Cluden easements are closed to 4WD vehicles from 1 May to 30 November annually.

General information
This 9223 ha block encompasses part of the summit plateau of the northern Dunstan Mountains (up to 1670 metres), as well as the steep bluffy headwaters of Lauder Creek. Vegetation is mainly snow tussock and shrubland, covered in snow in winter.
Access
There are three public entry points to the Lauder Basin Conservation Area and access is via easements.
Access from the east is through Lauder Station
From SH 85 heading towards St Bathans, turn on to Loop Rd, then turn on to Lauder Station Rd. The car park is on the right before the end of the road.
Access from the west is though Cluden Station
From SH 8 between Tarras and Lindis Valley, turn on to Cluden Creek Rd. The first car park is the Cluden Creek Car Park and further along Cluden Creek Rd is a second car park called the Top Car Park.
At both the Lauder and Cluden Station car parks there are locked gates, access via vehicle to the Lauder Basin Conservation Area across these easements requires completing an online application for padlock codes.
The easement across Lauder Station allows for 4WD motor vehicle use only, motorcycles and all terrain vehicles are not permitted. The Lauder and Cluden easements are closed to 4WD vehicles 1 May to 30 November annually.
Access from Cambrian Road
10 km north of Becks off St Bathans Loop Road. 2WD access extends as far as a car park at Sailors Creek. From here a walking, mountain bike and horse easement starts at a stile and leads to the hunting block.
Hunting is confined to the Lauder Basin Conservation Area. Firearms are to be carried unloaded through the access easements and hunting from the easement tracks is strictly prohibited. A current hunting permit for this area is essential.

Know before you go
Dogs
Dogs are permitted in the Lauder Basin Conservation Area via all three easements as long as a person holds a current hunting permit for this block. Dogs can only travel via the Lauder or Cluden Station easement tracks inside a vehicle and must remain confined until inside the conservation area.
