About this hunting block

Fallow deer, pigs and goats are all present within these reserves.

General Information

Podocarp/tawa forest with moderate to steep topography. Kiwi are known to be present.

Access

Access is through private land from all directions described below. You must have landowners’ permission to enter their property.

Turn off State Highway 3 at Waitotara onto Ngutuwera Road then right onto Mangawhio Road then left onto Omata or Lakes Road. The block can be accessed by walking from both of these road ends. It is also possible to walk in from the Waitōtara Valley Road at Tawhiwhi.

Dogs

A separate permit is required to hunt with dogs. All dogs must be avian avoidance certified. Contact the local DOC office for details.
