General information

The Central block encompasses the Papakai Ecological Area and large tracks of the Coromandel Forest Park totalling 13,918 ha.

The 309 Road represents the northern boundary and the Tapu Coroglen Road the southern boundary. The eastern and western boundaries comprise privately owned land. The dominant forest type comprises kauri, podocarp and broadleaved forest. The terrain is undulating with sharp ridges and steep guts.

Access

The Central block has multiple access points mostly across privately owned land. The Tapu Coroglen Road offers entry points as does the 309 Road.

Landholders

All hunters are asked to respect the rights of private land owners and farmers and gain permission from the land owner/occupier should they intend to gain access to the block across private land.

Dogs

Dogs should be kept on a lead when crossing private land. The Department also asks that hunters keep control of their dogs if using tracks frequented by members of the public/trampers/runners, etc. Dogs require a current kiwi aversion certificate to hunt in the Central block.
