Located in North Canterbury & Arthur’s Pass hunting in the Canterbury region

The Lewis Pass National Reserve hunting block is surrounded by Lake Sumner Forest Park, with SH7 running through the centre of the reserve.

About this hunting block

General information

The Lewis Pass National Reserve hunting block is completely surrounded by Lake Sumner Forest Park with SH7 running through the centre of the reserve.

This hunting area includes the section of the reserve that is managed by the DOC Greymouth Field Base on the West Coast.

Your Canterbury hunting permit will cover all this area, but should you wish hunt outside the boundaries of the reserve on the West Coast, you will require a West Coast hunting permit.

Access

Access to the area is via SH7.

NB: The walkwire in the lower Nina has been removed and there is a new footbridge approximately 2 km below Lucretia Stream.

Landholders

There is no need to cross any pastoral lease or privately owned land to access this area.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted in the Lewis Pass National Reserve as kiwi are present.

Huts

There are no DOC huts in the actual hunting area, but the Nina and Lucretia huts are just over the western boundary.

Palmer Lodge on SH7 is privately owned by New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association.

Hunters are advised to check for current pesticide operations that may be in progress where they intend to hunt.
