Molesworth roar applications for 2020

We will be running a ballot system for 2020 – all valid applications received by the closing date will be processed in random order.

Applications closed on Friday 15 November 2019.

Letters to successful parties will be sent during the week beginning 2 December confirming block and date. Further instructions will be contained within the letter.

Any unallocated blocks will be offered to unsuccessful applicants in the order they were drawn in the random draw, in January.

Before you apply:

  • Read the Molesworth hunting permit conditions.
  • Check the Molesworth Station hunting page for seasonal restrictions, closures, and pest control operations in place.
  • Make sure you have:
    • names, address and contact details of all your party
    • firearms licence number of each person in party
    • your preferred blocks and know how to access that block
    • your preferred dates
    • vehicle details and travel intentions worked out.

What you need to know

  1. Only one hunting party can be present in each of the blocks for each period (see date periods below).
  2. Applications will only be accepted through the online application form – there will be no paper application forms.
  3. There are 20 blocks available for the roar period on Molesworth Recreation Reserve.
  4. The roar block map and all individual block maps (numbered) are available online.
  5. The application form is limited to four choices of block and four choices of dates.
  6. A hunter is only able to hunt once during the roar period. Any other applications or inclusion in other parties will mean that the hunter and that hunting party will be disqualified and removed from the roar process.
  7. Permits will be emailed out in February 2020.

Dates

The 2020 balloted roar hunt for Molesworth will run for five weeks as follows:

  • Period 1: Wednesday 11 March to Tuesday 17 March 2020
  • Period 2: Wednesday 18 March to Tuesday 24 March 2020
  • Period 3: Wednesday 25 March to Tuesday 31 March 2020
  • Period 4: Wednesday 1 April to Tuesday 7 April 2020
  • Period 5: Wednesday 8 April to Monday 13 April 2020 (short week as the Acheron Road will close on 13 April at 7 pm for the season)

Be aware there could be helicopter operations (wilding pine control) taking place during this time.

Application conditions

  • Include the full name, address, phone number, email address, details of all vehicles and registration/s, and firearms licence number of the party leader and full name and firearms licence number for each member of your party and any other vehicles being taken.
  • Only submit one form for each party.
  • Name changes of individuals in the party are discouraged but may be granted at DOC's discretion.
  • A hunter is only able to hunt once during the roar period. Any other applications or inclusion in other parties will mean that the hunter and that hunting party will be disqualified and removed from the roar process.
