Introduction

DOC manages a network of over 950 huts of all shapes and sizes. They provide unique places to stay, refuge from bad weather, or rest and recover when you're out exploring the outdoors.

Highlights

COVID-19: Campsites, huts, lodges, and campervans

All huts, campsites and lodges (including those on Great Walks) are closed due to COVID-19.

People in certified self-contained campervans are strongly encouraged to use commercial campgrounds. You must remain at the same site for four weeks or until the Alert Level is reduced. During Alert Level 4, DOC campsites are closed along with many local council-owned freedom camping spots.

People in vehicles that are not self-contained must find alternative accommodation.
