- The hut is popular with families so likely to be busy during school holidays (particularly over summer), public holidays and Easter.
- In winter tracks to the hut can be muddy or covered in snow.

Waingongoro Hut (900 m) is set on a cliff-side high above the Waingongoro Stream. Take care near the cliff edge – there is no barrier. Don't walk or camp on the helipad.
The highest swingbridge in Egmont National Park is just 5 minutes walk from the hut. The Waingongoro Swingbridge is 24 m above the Waingongoro Stream – not for the faint hearted! If you're walking in from East Egmont – you’ll pass over the bridge on the way to the hut.
If you're walking in from Dawson Falls, take you swimsuit and have a dip in the lava formed Wilkies Pools.

- Bunks – platform (shared) bunks with mattresses in a bunkroom
- Cold running water from a rainwater tank
- Fireplace with wood supplied
- Containment tank toilet a short walk from the hut

- Newspaper/firelighters and matches/lighter for the wood burner/fire

Fees
- Adult (18+ years): $25 per night
- Child/youth (5–17 years): $12.50 per night
- Infant (0–4 years): free
Before you go, buy 1 Serviced Hut Ticket (green) or 1 Serviced Youth Hut Tickets (red) for each night's stay. Put these in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Serviced and Standard huts for a 12 month period.

This hut borders a cliff which overlooks the Waingongoro River. It is a beautiful spot but extra care should be taken when near the edge – there is no barrier.
Children should be actively supervised at all times.
Stay off the helipad
Don't camp or walk on the helipad. This is by the cliff edge and is not safe for any other use.
