About this hut

Waingongoro Hut (900 m) is set on a cliff-side high above the Waingongoro Stream, with a backdrop of native bush. A grassy area out front offers views up the gorge to Mt Taranaki and is ideal for camping.

The highest swingbridge in Egmont National Park is just 5 minutes walk from the hut. The Waingongoro Swingbridge is 24 m above the Waingongoro Stream – not for the faint hearted! If you're walking in from East Egmont – you’ll pass over the bridge on the way to the hut.

If you're walking in from Dawson Falls, take you swimsuit and have a dip in the lava formed Wilkies Pools.

  • Fireplace with wood supplied
  • Containment tank toilet a short walk from the hut
