Hunters huts in Rakiura National Park were built and are maintained by the Rakiura Hunter Camps Charitable Trust and are for accommodating hunters who have booked the surrounding hunting blocks. These huts must be booked and paid for through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre.
They offer very basic shelter with limited facilities and services. They have a small rainwater tank outside (conserve water) and a long drop toilet. The hut has a small pot belly – we recommend you take dry firewood with you.
The hut was built in 2001 by Taranaki and South Taranaki NZ Deerstalkers' Association members Rob McGregor, John Wells, Alex Reeves, Mike Webber, Rod Raynor and Colin Macrae.
It was funded by the Taranaki and South Taranaki Branches of the NZ Deerstalkers' Association and Rakiura Hunter Camps Charitable Trust.
For example, 1 night will cost $30, or 9 nights will cost $30.
Bookings are essential – book through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre.
