Long Hilly (Round Hill) Walking Track

Located in Longwood Forest Conservation Area in the Southland region

This is a loop track through historic goldfield within stunning native bush.

Long Hilly (Round Hill) Walking Track provides insight into the historic goldmining undertaken in this area in the 1800's. Along the track you will come across many relics from this era including an historic logging tramline, hand dug waterways and earth dams.

The track has many historic features from the days of gold mining as well as logging. Several interpretation panels along the way tell the stories of area.

There is a large car park available and a toilet 10 m along track.

From Riverton travel west on SH99 for 15 km. Turn right onto Round Hill Road, continue for 1 km. Turn right into the carpark.

This track has a widely diverse flora and fauna with over 100 species of native plant recorded.

This track runs through sites relating to gold mining in the area from 1874 onwards. It is the largest and southern most Chinese settlement in New Zealand.

There are also historic tramlines from the logging industry.
