The Oromahoe Traverse follows a ridgeline through regenerating hardwood/podocarp forest, linking Oromahoe Road with School Road, near Paihia.
If you want to enjoy a short walk amongst kauri before starting the Oromahoe Traverse, walk 800 m westwards along Oromahoe Road. You will find the Opua Kauri Walk on your left.
10,000 Steps Northland: This track equates to about 8,000 steps.
From Opua: Travelling from the south on SH11, turn left at the top of the Opua Hill into Oromahoe Road. The Oromahoe Traverse is sign-posted on your right.
From Paihia: Walk the Paihia School Road Track, which starts at the end of School Road, 700 m from downtown Paihia.
- Carry warm, waterproof clothing, and food and drink, even on short walks.
- Stout shoes or walking boots are advisable.
