It was previously a hostel for Cobb Dam workers. It is a great base to explore the local area from.
Rental is for the whole building, so you will not have to share it with other users.

Bookings
Bookings for the 2026/27 season open at 12 noon on Tuesday 12 May 2026.
- If no availability shows online for your dates, the lodge is fully booked.
- No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking.
- Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
- Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.
38 km from Upper Tākaka into Cobb Valley, Kahurangi National Park. The road is unsealed, narrow and winding.
Follow Cobb Dam Road all the way to the Cobb Reservoir. Just before you arrive at the reservoir the Cobb Hostel is the first house on your right. It is signposted.

- Water in the house is untreated and is from a nearby small stream.
- Wasps and bumble bees can be an issue especially from February to May.
- In winter check the expected weather forecast. Snow can close the Cobb road at the ridge for days at a time.
There are excellent tramping, fishing, hunting and botanising opportunities in the area.
