It's has a grassy area for tents with coastal vistas.

All campsites on the Heaphy Track have water from a tap and toilets that are supplied with toilet paper. Katipo Creek Shelter campsite has a long drop toilet and also sinks.
Campers are not permitted to use hut facilities.
Hut wardens move between nearby huts in the summer. As well as checking campsite bookings, they are able to provide information about the track and weather to campers.
Fees
1 October – 30 April
New Zealand citizens and those ordinarily resident in New Zealand*:
- Adult (18+ years): $19 per person, per night
- Child (5 to 17 years): $9 per person, per night
International visitors:
- Adult (18+ years): $28 per person, per night
- Child (5 to 17 years): $14 per person, per night
Proof of eligibility is required for the New Zealand rate.

For all visitors:
- Adult (18+ years): $19 per person, per night
- Child (5 to 17 years): $9 per person, per night
The DOC Campsite Pass cannot be used at this campsite.

Katipo Creek Shelter campsite is 2 hr 30 min from Heaphy hut campsite and 2 hr from Scotts Beach campsite.
