Located in Ruahine Forest Park in the Hawke’s Bay region
Longview Hut is above the bush edge, but below the ridge, at 1200 m altitude.
Members of the Napier branch of the NZ Deerstalkers Association built this hut in 1979. It was upgraded in 1992 by the Department of Conservation.
Before you go, buy 1 Serviced Hut Ticket (green for adults, orange for youth) or 3 Standard Hut Tickets (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put these in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Serviced and Standard huts for a 6 or 12 month period.

Kashmir Road: 2–3 hr via Longview Hut Track
Around 100 km from Napier or Palmerston North, turn off SH50 onto Makaretu Road, then into Mill Road – the first road on the left. Mill Road becomes gravel after 7 km – continue on for a further 4 km, then turn left into Kashmir Road and follow this to the car park at the end. We recommend 4WD on Kashmir Road due to its steepness.

This is an exposed area and strong winds are common – caution is required, and ensure all doors and windows of the hut and toilet are securely fastened before departure.
