Ōtaki Beach Conservation Area
This is a section of public land in Ōtaki Beach town. It is located between Rangiuru Road, Marine Parade and Ōtaki Health Camp.
There are no official tracks or facilities in the conservation area, however, there are some informal tracks through the pine forest. Carry a mobile phone, as it is possible to get lost in the pine forest.
This is a shared use area – you can expect to encounter walkers, including dog walkers and bikers.
Ōtaki Health Camp
Ōtaki Health Camp was New Zealand’s first permanent children’s health camp and is a Category 1 Historic Place. There is no general public access but you can book a group tour.
Ōtaki Beach Conservation Area
Enter by climbing over the stile on Rangiuru Road. This is opposite the junction of Rangiuru Road and The Avenue.
Papaitonga Scenic Reserve
The entrance to the reserve is at the end of Buller Road, off State Highway 1 approximately 5 km southwest of Levin.
There can be high numbers of wasps in th Ōtaki area, carry antihistamine if you are allergic to their stings.
Ōtaki Beach Conservation Area
No fires, no camping and no motorbikes.
Take your rubbish (including any dog poo) away with you. There is a rubbish bin at the Rangiuru Road stile. There are no toilets.
Papaitonga Scenic Reserve
Dogs are not permitted.
No fires and other activities that may cause damage, such as hunting, mountain biking and trail bike riding, are not permitted.
Take your rubblish away with you.
