Monument Track

Located in Fiordland National Park and Lake Manapouri area in the Fiordland region

This is a short but challenging tramping track from Hope Arm in Lake Manapouri up to the summit of The Monument, with great lake views in good weather.

From the beach track marker, it is a short but challenging 290 metre climb to The Monument summit, through forest onto the ridge then above bushline.

Extreme caution is advised as there are exposed sections with crumbling rock and narrow ledges. At one point there is a chain anchored into the rock to help you.

From the top there are spectacular views of Lake Manapouri and the surrounding mountains.

This track starts and finishes in Hope Arm on Lake Manapouri, Fiordland, 2 km north of the Hope Arm Hut.

To get to the start of the track you can travel by boat or kayak.

To get to Manapouri from Te Anau (21 km, 20 minutes drive), follow the Manapouri - Te Anau Highway.

The wharf at Pearl Harbour is 500 m past the shops on Waiau St, and the carpark is accessed from View St (left turn south of shops).

Sandflies are plentiful so we recommend repellent!
