Introduction
The Tairua area has a range of tracks exploring beaches and coastal forests. The Twin Kauri Track and Lynch Stream Track have been closed until further notice due to Kauri Disease being found in the vicinity.The Pauanui Trig Track is one of the most popular walks in the lower Coromandel.
Sailors Grave Memorial is for a sailor from HMS Tortoise who drowned in the surf in 1842.

Visit Sailors Grave Memorial at Te Karo Bay, the rare land grave for a sailor from 1842. Deaths among sailors were not uncommon at this time, but burying crew ‘at sea’ was standard practice.
Access the walks in this area from SH25 north of Tairua.
