Twizel River Trail.
Twizel River Trail

Located in Twizel area in the Canterbury region

This is a lovely walk alongside Twizel River however lower sections of the track often flood and require crossing the river, so take care.

The river is intermittently lined with willow trees that provide plenty of shade. Walkers may also enjoy the opportunity to find uncrowded swimming holes and picnic spots.

Most of this track is a public access easement through private farm land so keep to the track.

Lower sections of this track beyond Shirleys Camp often flood and require crossing the river. This will not be suitable for all track users, use with caution.

Mountain biking

This is a good single track ride. It may get washed out in this middle section so you may need to push your bike in places. At the trail end, return the same way or alternatively, follow Ōhau River Road back to the start.

This is a shared-use track. Follow the mountain bikers code: respect others, respect the rules, respect the track.

Twizel River Trail is signposted directly opposite the Twizel town.
