Located in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park in the Canterbury region

This is an alpine serviced 28-bunk hut in the Aoraki/Mount Cook area.

  • Platform bunks with mattresses in separate bunkrooms

Note, toilet can be inaccessible in winter.

There is a daily radio check-in and weather update to all the alpine huts in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park. This is at 4:45 pm. There are instructions in the hut that explain how the radio update is done.

Car parking fees

Car parking fees apply at White Horse Hill from mid-December 2025.

Fees

  • Adult (18+ years): $55 per night
  • NZ Alpine Club members: $40 per night
  • Child (5–17 years): $28 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets cannot be used at this hut.

Bookings

Bookings are open for stays from 25 October 2025 to 30 April 2026.

All bookings are first-come first-served. We do not have waiting lists for bookings for future seasons or facilities that are already booked-out.

A $10 service fee applies to phone and in-person booking. This is a limited service – book online first. An in-person booking is dependent on there being space available.

Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival.

1 May - 10 November

Bookings are not required – first come, first served but you must still register your intentions with the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park Visitor Centre before you walk.

Car parking fees

The track to Mueller Hut starts near the White Horse Hill car park. DOC is charging fees for car parking at White Horse Hill as a pilot from mid-December 2025 to 30 June 2026. 

The fees are $5 per hour or $25 a day. If you arrive and leave within 20 minutes, parking is free. If you plan to stay for longer than 20 minutes you must pay on arrival.

Payment machines that accept debit and credit cards are highly visible at each site. Cash payments are not accepted.

Locals and other car park users can purchase an annual permit. Permits cannot be purchased at the payment machines and need to be purchased online.

Note: If you arrive one day and leave the next you will pay car parking fees for two days ($50). If you plan to stay for multiple days ($50 or more) it may be more affordable for you to purchase an annual permit.
