Facilities
This hut has 20 beds in two rooms. It also has two toilets, gas cooking facilities, a water supply (stored roof water - boil before use) and two deck areas, where you can enjoy excellent views of the Hauraki Gulf, Little Barrier Island (Hauturu) and the summit peaks on Great Barrier Island.
Fees
- Adult (18+ years): $25 per night
- Youth (5–17 years): $12.50 per night
- Child/Infant (0–4 years): free
Hut tickets cannot be used at this hut.
Backcountry Hut Passes are valid for use in this hut. Passes can be used unlimited for a 6 or 12 month period for most Serviced and Standard huts.
Bookings
Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2025.
All bookings are first-come first-served. We do not have waiting lists for bookings for future seasons or facilities that are already booked-out.
Bookings are required all year.
A $10 service fee applies to phone and in-person booking. This is a limited service – book online first. An in-person booking is dependent on there being space available.
Your hut booking is for any bunk bed, not for a specific bunk bed – select your bunk bed on arrival.

Mt Heale Hut can be reached by a 3 hr - 3 hr 30 min walk via Windy Canyon and Palmer's Track, accessed from Aotea Road at the top of Whangapoua Hill.
