Kākāpō Cam: Live stream
Fingers crossed for the return of Kākāpō Cam.

We're working hard behind the scenes to bring back Kākāpō Cam for the 2026 breeding season.

In 2022, we trialled a livestream from Whenua Hou/Codfish Island, featuring the nest of a female kākāpō named Rakiura. Although her four eggs were infertile, Rakiura became a foster mum to Valerie and Manakouri, two chicks who fledged successfully and are thriving today.

The Kākāpō Cam project supports ongoing research and offers a rare glimpse into the world of this elusive, nocturnal species. Installing a camera at a kākāpō nest is a big undertaking. The breeding islands are remote, rugged, and wild birds don’t always follow the script. We can’t make promises, but we do hope to have a camera rolling and ready to stream in 2026.
